We are about 21 days away from the fastest two minutes in sports, and I am ECSTATIC! I love everything about the first Saturday in May, but the FASHION makes my heart warm. (I’m sure I’m not the only one!) Because I want you to save your money for Saturday, May 5, I have planned a five-week series of #WhatToWear: Derby Edition. This is the first post!
Kentucky weather is unpredictable no matter the season. Whether you’re going to the races Friday or Saturday, I suggest taking a light jacket! I purchased this Liz Claiborne three-quarter length jacket for $6.29 from the Ring Road location (Elizabethtown). It’s in extremely good condition, light-weight, and is perfect for a day at the track! It’s water color painting style is so beautiful and the variety of colors make coordinating a dream.
I featured this Ann Taylor pencil skirt back in the fall. I told you all it is so versatile, and here it is in a completely different look! It’s from the Crestwood location, where I purchased it for $1.99 thanks to the color of the week sale. It’s knit, but not heavy, making it ideal for a spring Saturday.
I was hesitant about pairing this magenta sleeveless ruffled blouse with these pieces, but once I tried it on, I LOVED IT! Sometimes you have to be bold to make a statement, and this is one of those times! Don’t be afraid to pair something together that isn’t necessarily typical. This top is made from a silk material, perfect for warm weather. I purchased it from the Stonewall location (Lexington) during the color of the week sale for just $1.99!
Because I am ALL about the feathers, this fascinator is perfect for me! It’s subtle and just the right size for my face. I found this premade at the Northfield location (Louisville) for just $1.79. However, fascinators and hats at retail price are typically WAY out of budget, so I suggest picking a floppy hat or cute headband from your location Goodwill and then heading back into the home goods section of the store. Items such as wreaths and center pieces will more than likely have seasonal flowers or décor attached. Remove them and glue them on to your headpiece. Making your own hat is becoming increasingly popular and is SO FUN!
Make your Churchill Downs experience affordable by shopping at your local Goodwill for your weekend’s outfits. Stop by The Good Life next Friday, April 20 for another #WhatToWear: Derby Edition!
