Sweater + dress layered style: 2018's request

January 29, 2018

You asked and I listened! Styling sweaters over dresses is a skill you’ll need to master this upcoming spring season. It’s super easy, if you have the right items in your closet. This post is to help you know what to thrift next time you’re at Goodwill!

The most important piece of the entire look is obviously the sweater. Without the right fit, color, and material, your message may be misinterpreted. For this look, I chose this oversized Express sweater I purchased from the Stonewall location (Lexington). The original $69.90 retail tag was attached, but I paid just $5.29! Besides its excellent condition, this sweater was perfect because of its deep hue, heavily dropped shoulders, slim wrists, and wide neckline. Tip: You’ll want your sweater a little baggy with some character. Think fun sleeves, a big collar, and an A-line cut.

I LOVE a fitted jumper, but any dress that fits will do. (Note: I highly suggest choosing a texture; the sweater will lay better.) This Old Navy Kids denim dress has adjustable strap length, buttons up the front, and is decorated with pockets. It’s a girl’s dream! Because of the color of the week sale, I paid just $1.15...literally!!!

Refusing to embrace the cold weather, these black leggings are my bestie and I wear them allll the time. (Not just with “cute” clothes, but with sweatshirts and pajamas!) They were just $4.29 and make me feel so cozy! Up until Easter, you’ll be pairing leggings with your sweater and dress. I have a few neutral colors, so that I can mix and match.

The new Taylorsville Road location (Louisville) has an awesome handbag selection! Because cheetah print has my heart, I had to snag this $148 calf-hair Fossil clutch in the specialty priced section for just $11.99! I paired it with my black faux-leather APT9 booties I purchased from Tradewinds location (Somerset) for just $3.99.

This style is so simple – just find a soft, big sweater, a dress you like, and coordinating accessories. You’ll be chic and thrifty, all in the same look.

Best,

A
