#ThriftyThursday: "This Is Me"

#ThriftyThursday: I was 12 years old when I attended my first Jonas Brothers concert. I spent weeks planning my outfit, and finally decided on a Goodwill original. I painted my favorite lyrics on a t-shirt and wore a pair of colored skinny jeans with Converse my mom purchased from a local Goodwill.

Late last month, I mouthed the words of my preferred chart-toppers with thousands of Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato fans. To follow tradition for my fourth time seeing Nick Jonas in concert, I dressed in Goodwill style.

I traded in my basic t-shirt for an Aztec sheer blouse with creative sleeves; my florescent denim for a pair of New York and Company jeans; Converse for retro Justice sandals; and added a lip-shaped purse to the ensemble. I absolutely LOVED this look. Each piece was practical, comfortable, and super cute. I found the stylish shirt at the Leestown Road location (Lexington), jeans at the Dixie Highway store (Elizabethtown), shoes at the New Circle store (Lexington), and the purse at Fern Creek’s location (Louisville). All together, I spent less than $18 on the priceless night.

At the age of 19, my heart felt 12 again. A love for pop music and Goodwill’s fashion…some things just never change.

our history

Goodwill Industries of Kentucky is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit headquartered in Louisville since 1923. Goodwill gives people up—not a handout—so they can experience the dignity and independence that comes from earning a paycheck.

our mission

We help people with disabilities or other disadvantages achieve and maintain employment to gain a better quality of life.

what we do

Goodwill collects and sells donated items to fund programs for Kentuckians who have disabilities or other challenges in finding and maintaining traditional employment.
